The black sheep of the de Vries family and in particular his elder brother Colonel the Viscount Edward de Vries, Sir Simony is a something of a liability. A clumsy inept disgrace at the table or on the dance floor, he was for a time rumoured to have somehow seduced the sister of the Bishop of Liverpool. It has since been demonstrated in a court of law that he is in fact a virgin. He is known to have some skill in conjurery and has been awarded a post at the Invisible College connected to that art. He impressed some observers with his display at magickal skill at the Royal Wedding even if he did make a few errors.

Eternity

A Study in Extreme Literature was conducted by the next incumbent of the Samuel Harris Chair for Conjuration at the Invisible College, charred notes were recovered from the chamber before the position was abandoned as futile

It appears that my predecessor was unfortunate enough to encounter a power beyond our Imagination. That Books have power, I have ever had little doubt, but that this Power might be used to Consume the written word is a truly Terrifying thought…

… To my knowledge it was the Archangel Alexandros who finally defeated that which had consumed Sir S and caused such a havoc. Upon speaking to Mistress Apollonia I managed to recover some mention of a Sword which may have been the artefact used to put the creature to rest…

… What little remains of Sir S' library I have offered to the Milton Academy, I mean, who am I to argue with a big angry angel? Still, I have kept the few notes that have remained scattered about the place. It seems that Sir S had developed a particularly interesting spell which combines the powers of water and fire…

… While no progress with the spell has been made, I did make inquiries with Sir S' brother who kindly devoted time to me as he slew the offending Catholics. Well, not exactly attention as such, I might note, but I believe now there is reason to believe that Sir S possessed a device that had harnessed the Gorgon's gaze. I suspect that it may be in the possession of the Master of Cain's College…

… Sir Theodocius refused to see me. I was particularly offended when a suit of armour animated and chased me out of the cloisters following my attempt to climb through the window. It tried to remove my trousers…

… Learning the spell Sir S left has proved somewhat difficult, but I think I have it right. In any case, I shall try it out and see what happens.
